Civilian Casualties in Ukraine Reach Alarming Levels

According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), at least 8317 civilians have been killed and 13892 injured in Ukraine since the start of the conflict.

The OHCHR's latest report, released on September 24, 2023, provides a comprehensive overview of the civilian casualties in Ukraine from February 24, 2022, to September 24, 2023. The report highlights the devastating impact of the conflict on civilians, with the number of casualties continuing to rise.

The OHCHR also notes that the actual number of casualties is likely to be much higher, as the ongoing conflict and the difficulty in accessing certain areas have made it challenging to verify and report on all incidents.

The OHCHR's findings are based on a variety of sources, including information from government authorities, human rights organizations, and media reports. The organization has a team of human rights monitors on the ground in Ukraine who are working to document the impact of the conflict on civilians.

The OHCHR's report is a sobering reminder of the human cost of the conflict in Ukraine. The organization calls on all parties to the conflict to respect international humanitarian law and to take all possible measures to protect civilians.
