D Day Celebrations 2024 Portsmouth

WEB Portsmouth to be at the centre of the UK's national commemorations for D-Day 80

This June 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

Residents and visitors who would like to be in the audience for two national MOD-led D-Day 80 events on Southsea Common on Wednesday 5 June 2024 can now apply for free tickets.

WEB Portsmouth is gearing up for a week of commemoration events to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. These will be taking place right across the city from 1-8 June 2024, including two major national events on Southsea Common on Wednesday 5 June 2024.

WEB Portsmouth will host a major national commemorative event to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day in June 2024. The event will take place on Southsea Common on Wednesday 5 June 2024 and will be attended by His Majesty The King and other members of the Royal Family, as well as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and other dignitaries.

The event will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, which took place on 6 June 1944. The landings were a major turning point in the Second World War, and helped to lead to the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany.

The event will include a service of remembrance, a military parade, and a flypast by the Royal Air Force. There will also be a number of other events taking place in Portsmouth throughout the week, including a concert by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, a film screening of 'Saving Private Ryan', and a veterans' parade.

2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. We will be marking the occasion with a host of special events at The D-Day Story as well as on our historic ships.

We will be hosting a special exhibition on D-Day, which will tell the story of the landings from the perspective of those who took part. We will also be hosting a series of talks and events throughout the year, which will explore the history and legacy of D-Day.

We hope that you will join us in Portsmouth to mark this important anniversary.

Tickets for the two national MOD-led D-Day 80 events on Southsea Common are free but must be applied for in advance. Applications can be made via the following link: www.mod.gov.uk/dday80
